Welcome to Kingfisher Class - the home of Year 2!
The children will be welcomed by Mrs Johnson, class teacher, Miss Kirk, teaching assistant and Mrs Cardy, teaching assistant.
In our classroom, children are encouraged to see mistakes not as setbacks, but as powerful stepping stones in their learning journey. We celebrate effort, curiosity, and resilience, creating a space where every child feels safe to take risks and grow. Through a nurturing environment built on trust and encouragement, pupils develop confidence and a genuine love of learning. Together, we build a culture where reflection, support, and joy are at the heart of every lesson.
Home Learning
In Kingfisher Class, we promote a love of reading and we encourage children to read for pleasure whenever possible. We will be exploring a wide variety of texts throughout the school year. Your child will receive a reading book and new reading record and this will be changed on a Monday along with the library books once this is up and running. You child's reading should be brought into school daily as there may be opportunities for extra reading practice. We hope that you can support us by promoting a similar love of reading at home and helping to increase your child’s fluency and comprehension skills by listening to them read, even for a short space of time, at least three times a week. Please ensure that you sign your child’s Reading Record whenever you have listened to them read this will help us with monitoring your child’s reading progress. At Enfield, we also offer certificates and rewards for reaching Home Reading milestones, including free books and book tokens!
Physical Education
In Kingfisher Class, PE will be taught on a Monday and Wednesday this year. We ask that on these days, children come to school wearing their PE kits. Children will need appropriate footwear such as trainers to wear throughout the school day. Hair should be tied back and any earrings removed.
This term, we’ll be exploring lots of exciting topics across our subjects! In Geography, we’ll be comparing our local area with Tulum, Mexico, thinking about places, people, and environments. In Maths, our focus will be on place value—understanding the value of each digit in a number and how numbers are built. In English and Reading, we’ll be diving into a variety of books and using them to practise sentence structure and develop our writing skills. In PE, we’ll be building our fundamentals and ball control, while in Music we’ll be performing rhythms and moving to a steady pulse. Our PSHE lessons will focus on “Being Me in My World,” helping us understand ourselves and others. In RE, we’ll be learning about the Christian worldview, and in Art we’ll be experimenting with monochromatic designs using shades of one colour. We’ll also be using computers throughout our learning in all these subjects—whether it’s researching, creating, or practising new skills
