Welcome to Kingfisher Class - the home of Year 2!
Mrs Lehman is our Class Teacher and Miss Johnson, Mrs Stevenson and Miss Miller are the Teaching Assistants.
In Kingfisher Class, we promote a love of reading and we encourage children to read for pleasure whenever possible. We will be exploring a wide variety of texts throughout the school year. Your child will receive a new Reading Record which should be brought into school daily. We hope that you can support us by promoting a similar love of reading at home and helping to increase your child’s fluency and comprehension skills by listening to them read, even for a short space of time, at least three times a week. Please ensure that you sign your child’s Reading Record whenever you have listened to them read and provide a short comment about how your child has read. This will greatly help us with monitoring your child’s reading progress. At Enfield, we also offer certificates and rewards for reaching Home Reading milestones, including free books and book tokens!
A spelling grid will be sent home at the beginning of each Half Term, with every week’s spelling list for your child to practice at home. This will be placed in their Home Learning book which they can use to practice their spellings in. Home Learning books can also be used for any additional practice you may wish to do with your child at home such as handwriting or maths work. Spelling practice and tests in school will take place using our Spelling Shed App.
In Kingfisher Class, PE will be taught on a Tuesday and Wednesday this year. We ask that on these days, children come to school wearing their PE kits. Children will need appropriate footwear such as trainers to wear throughout the school day. In addition to our PE sessions, children also partake in our ‘Daily Mile’ during afternoon break. This is a fifteen minute session to increase children’s physical fitness, mobility and wellbeing. It is non-competitive opportunity for children, and adults, to come together and enjoy fresh air and exercise as part of the school day.
